Windows Setup Guide ​
Configuring your Windows computer to use our public DNS resolvers enhances security, privacy, and browsing speed. Follow the steps below to manually set up DNS on your Windows device.
Method 1: Changing DNS Settings via Control Panel ​
- Open Control Panel
- Go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
- Click on "Change adapter settings" in the left pane
- Right-click on your active network connection and select "Properties"
- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties"
- Select "Use the following DNS server addresses"
- Enter the DNS addresses manually:
- Preferred DNS:
209.250.227.42
- Alternate DNS:
64.176.190.82
- Preferred DNS:
- Click OK and close the settings
Method 2: Changing DNS via Windows Settings (Windows 10 & 11) ​
- Open Settings
- Go to "Network & Internet"
- Select "Wi-Fi" or "Ethernet" depending on your connection
- Click on your connected network
- Scroll down to "IP settings" and click "Edit"
- Change "Edit IP settings" to "Manual" and enable IPv4
- Enter the DNS addresses manually:
- Preferred DNS:
209.250.227.42
- Alternate DNS:
64.176.190.82
- Preferred DNS:
- Click "Save" to apply the changes
Method 3: Enabling DNS over HTTPS (DoH) in Windows 10 & 11 ​
Windows now supports DNS over HTTPS (DoH) to encrypt DNS queries. Follow these steps to enable DoH:
- Open Settings
- Go to "Network & Internet"
- Select "Wi-Fi" or "Ethernet" depending on your connection
- Click on your connected network
- Scroll down to "DNS settings" and click "Edit"
- Change "Edit DNS settings" to "Manual" and enable IPv4 and/or IPv6
- Enter the following DoH DNS server addresses:
- Preferred DNS:
https://resolver.dnsprivacy.org.uk
- Preferred DNS:
- Select "Encrypted only (DNS over HTTPS)" for both settings
- Click "Save" to apply the changes
