Protection Levels
Our DNS Privacy service offers multiple levels of protection to suit different privacy needs and browsing preferences. Each level builds upon the previous one, providing increasingly comprehensive filtering of unwanted content.
Overview of Protection Levels
We offer five distinct protection levels that you can select based on your desired balance between unrestricted access and comprehensive protection:
Level | Protection | Best For |
---|---|---|
None | No filtering | Users who only want encrypted DNS without content filtering |
Low | Basic ad blocking | Light browsing with minimal disruption |
Medium | Standard protection | Most users seeking balanced protection |
High | Enhanced protection | Privacy-conscious users |
Extreme | Maximum protection | Users wanting maximum privacy and security and accept websites may break |
Detailed Explanation
None - No protection
Selecting this option provides DNS resolution without any content filtering:
- No blocking of any domains
- Only encrypts your DNS queries for privacy
- Websites and apps function exactly as they would with standard DNS
Low - Basic protection
The Low protection level offers minimal filtering while maintaining compatibility with almost all websites:
- Blocks major advertising networks
- Filters known malicious domains
- Minimal impact on website functionality
Medium - All-round protection
Our recommended setting for most users, striking a balance between protection and compatibility:
- Blocks most advertising networks and trackers
- Filters analytics and telemetry services
- Protects against known malware domains
- May cause minor functionality issues with some websites
High - Extended protection
High protection provides comprehensive filtering for privacy-conscious users:
- Blocks more advertising networks
- Filters social media trackers and widgets
- Blocks analytics, telemetry, and metrics collection
- Filters potentially unwanted content
- May affect functionality on some websites
Extreme - Aggressive protection
Our most restrictive setting, designed for maximum privacy and security:
- Aggressively blocks all advertising, tracking, and analytics
- Filters affiliate links and referral systems
- Blocks cryptojacking, browser fingerprinting, and other privacy threats
- Significant impact on website functionality for enhanced privacy
Threat Intelligence Feed
In addition to the protection levels, we offer an optional Threat Intelligence Feed:
- Updates automatically with newly discovered threats
- Blocks domains associated with malware, phishing, and scams
- Works independently from your chosen protection level
- Recommended for all users regardless of protection level
Force Safe Search
This optional feature enforces safe search on major search engines:
- Activates safe search features on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and other search providers
- Filters adult content from search results
- Works independently from your protection level
- Useful for family environments or shared devices
How to Choose the Right Level
Consider these factors when selecting your protection level:
- Browsing habits: More restrictive levels may be better for users who visit many new or unfamiliar sites
- Technical comfort: Higher levels may require occasional troubleshooting of broken functionality
- Privacy concerns: Those with strong privacy preferences may prefer High or Extreme levels
- Shared devices: Consider Medium or Low for devices used by multiple people with different needs
